Bird's Nest

I just love distressing!  Hence, my blog name.  I distressed just about everything on this card and then ran distress ink over the edges.  The beautiful bird's nest image is from the Cherry Blossom Bird Set by Digi Design House and is coloured with Copics, but I forgot to write them down!  Here's my guess though:  eggs-BG07, BG02, BG45, YG93; leaves-YG17, YG07, YG03; nest-E99, E97, E35, E34, E21.  I cut the image right out and then placed it on a Kraft cardstock circle to keep with the vintage feel I was going for.  I stacked Pop Up Dots to pick the nest right up off the card.  Here's an angle shot to show the texture and dimension:

Make sure you head on over to the Digi Design House Blog to play the latest challenge!

So Lovely

Edited to add:  In a comment, Corry asked what I used as a base for this box.  I did put it in the supplies, but forgot to mention it up here.  This is a Tim Holtz Configurations box.  It comes with all the little boxes inside that you can arrange any way you like!  It was so fun!

I mentioned last week that my friend Karlene was coming for a visit.  We had a fabulous time!  We hiked a total of 21 kilometres, had a Twilight-a-thon, ate junk food, giggled, and did some major crafting.  This is what I made!  For the photos, I used the Packing Tape Transfer technique that I read about on the Scrapperlicious blog.  Behind the photos is some vanilla cardstock that I sponged with SU's Apricot Appeal and More Mustard ink.  The Grungeboard letters were spritzed with Apricot Tattered Angels Chalkboard Mist, inked with Vintage Photo Distress Ink, and then covered with Glossy Accents to make them shine.  All over the place are little touches:  a stack of buttons, glass jars full of beads, Idea-ology Fragments with DP behind it, metal charms from hair clips or from Karlene's stash, a hair scrunchie, a seashell, and various flowers both dried and fabric.  Here's some closeups:

My lovely friend Karlene and I (I'm on the left) with some of the gorgeous Yukon behind us!

Out Of This World

The challenge this week at Hambo Hoedown is to use a Hambo Stamp with this fabulous moon image, with optional texture!  I got so excited, that I couldn't stop at one card!  So my first card I chose Hambo's Balloon Thing to put on the Moon, only I coloured the moon like it was Mars!  I printed several copies of the balloons and added glitter to some of them.  The Copics I used to colour the images are:  planet-R24, YR18, YR15, Y17; balloon thing-YG17, YG07, YG03; balloon thing shoes & hat-BG02, B91; balloons-RV95, RV93, R29, R27, R24, Y17, Y21.

For my second card, I decided to colour the Moon like a moon and I added the Spaceboy Set!  I love it!  The sentiments were just printed out on my computer.  I added rhinestones for more stars too!  The Copics I used to colour these images are:  moon-BG02, B91; green planet-YG17, YG07, YG03; orange planet-R24, YR18, YR15, Y17; spaceboy-R24, R22, B91; hair-E99, E97, skin-E21, E00, E000.  I sort of qualify for the texture option since the black cardstock I used on both cards is textured.  I hope you all take some time to play with these sets!  There are so many possiblities!

Paper:  Bazill Cardstock - Black, Green , SU Cardstock - Tempting Turquoise, Copic X-Press It Cardstock
Accessories:  Rhinestones, SU Dazzling Diamonds Glitter, Pop Up Dots
Tools:  Copic Markers

Sweet Summer

The challenge this fortnight over at Penny's Paper-Crafty Challenge is Here Comes Summer!  I just got this Loves Nature stamp from Sarah Kay Stamps and I thought I'd be perfect!  I coloured her in with my Copic Markers (overalls-YG97, YG95, YG93; hat-R22, R20, RV91, RV93, RV95; patches & shirt-YR15, Y17, Y21; apples-R29, R27, R24, R22; basket-E99, E35, E21; hair-E99, E97, Y21; skin-E21, E00, E000; grass-YG97, YG07, YG03).  I've been dying to use this beautiful Basic Grey paper but I didn't have any Copics that matched.  So I mixed them up a little (especially on the hat) so that hopefully the colours blended enough to make the right colour!

Other challenges I'm entering this card in:
Use it Tuesday - Flowers and a Stamp Not Prviously Inked (The flowers are from my stash and are at least two years old, and I've never used the stamp before!)
House of Gilli - Flowers

Stamps:  Love Nature by Sarah Kay Stamps

Fabulous Coasters!

I love browsing the Scrapperlicious blog!  Irene Tan is so talented!  I saw this project and got so inspired!  I thought it would be perfect for the current challenge over at Digi Design House, which is Anything But A Card!  So I set out to make my version of the project!  You've heard me talk about The Creative Zone before, and I can tell you, I was there!  This project was so much fun to make!  I used a lot of products and a lot of techniques.  And I think the end result is AWESOME!  This is what you get if you come to my house to craft with me.  I made this for my dear friend Karlene who flew all the way up to the Yukon to spend a few days crafting, giggling, hiking, and getting-no-sleep-ing (seriously, I can make up words if I want to!) with me!  As this post is going live, Karlene and I are in my creative space having a grand time!

So, here's what I did.  I printed off images from Beautiful Butterflies, Portfolio Collection, and Sunflower - all by DDH - in various sizes and coloured them with my Copic Markers (I apologize, I did not write down the numbers while I did it).  Then I cut every image out.

After the images were coloured, I started off with the letters.  These are letters from a Tim Holtz Idea-ology Grungeboard package called Nature.  For the blue letters, I sprayed them heavily with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist - Caribbean.  For the apricot letters, I sprayed them with Tattered Angels Chalk Mist - Apricot.  I left these to dry while I put everything else together.  When they were finished drying, I inked up the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

Using Tombow Adhesive, I glued my patterned paper (by TAC) onto each coaster (I was doing both projects at once, so I covered a total of 6 coasters.  I then sanded the edges and inked them up with Tumbled Glass and Vintage Photo Distress Ink.  At this point I put all the hardware together.  I used my Crop-a-dile to punch the holes, Tim Holtz Idea-ology Jump Rings to attach the coasters together, and Tim Holtz Idea-ology Link Chain for the hanger.

Now it was time to add the fun details!  I used some old packaging from a Tim Holtz product, ran it through my Cuttlebug first with the Tim Holtz Sizzix Tattered Florals Die and then with the Tim Holtz Sizzix Cracked Texture Fade.  I coloured on the back with a Copic Marker to give it some colour.

I took apart an old bulletin board and punched a flower out of the cork with the Tim Holtz Sizzix Tattered Florals Die.  Using a hat pin from the SU Pretties Kit, I put some misc. beads on it.  Then I layered the images around it.

I took some paper flowers, coloured them with Copic Markers, and then layered them.  The framed piece here is neat.  It's just some pattered paper on the bottom, some printed transparency in the middle, and a piece of SU Styled Silver Hardware.  I thought it was too silver, so I coloured around the edge of the frame with a Copic Marker.  After all of that was completed, I went over the letters with some Ranger Glossy Accents to give shine and dimension.  Then I put 1/2 pearls and rhinestones all over the project.

I loved it so much that I made one for me too!

On this one I added some blanket stitching on the side with a fun fibre from EK Success.

Here are some closeups:

The winners will be announced on the Hoedown blog, as well as on the Hambo company blog, Talk to the Ham, on Wednesday, May 25.

For my card, I chose the movie Monsters Inc.  I have 3 kids, I couldn't help choosing a kids movie!  This Beast stamp by Hambo Stamps is one of my favourites and looks like he would fit right in in Monster's Inc!  I coloured the Beast in with my Copic Markers (blue-BG07, BG02, BG45; belly-Y17, Y21; nose & spots-YG07, YG03; horns-YR18, YR15, Y17).  Another thing I love about this Beast is that it goes so nicely with the Bump in the Night sentiment!  I love Hambo's funny sentiments!  I also used some of Hambo's Sweat Pea Webbed Weave!  Isn't it fabulous?!  Here's the inside of the card:

Have a fantastic day!

It's finally springtime up here in the Yukon and I am thrilled!  My family and I have been outside as much as possible soaking up the sun!  We have lots of daylight now (about 18 hours of sunshine) and the days are still getting longer!  Gotta love it!  Anyway, on to my card!  This is another brand new image from Prairie Fairy Designs called Singin in the Rain.  Isn't it so adorable!  I have a special spot in my heart for these sweet Gillian images (that's the girl's name).  The challenge this fortnight at Fairy Fun Fridays is More Than One Folds!  As many of you know, fancy folds are difficult for me, so I chose a simple easel card.  I love the way it turned out!  I coloured the image with my Copic Markers (green-YG17, YG07, YG03, Y21; blue-B97, BG02, B91; boots-YR15, Y17, Y21; ducklings-Y21).  I coloured two images so that I could cut out the umbrella and ducklings to pop them out.  You can see the dimension on the picture below:

At The Beach

I really love this image from the A Day at the Beach set by Digi Design House!  I coloured it with Copic Markers (chair-E99, E35, R22, R20; water-BG07, BG02, YG03; sky-BG02, Colourless Blender; sailboat-R27, R24; sand-E35, E34, E21, E00) making sure to leave white parts on the water to look like the sun shining on the water.  I used a page out of a dictionary and inked with Distress Ink (Vintage Photo).  I also added some Kosher Salt to the sand to give it more texture.  I saw someone do this recently, but I just can't find the link to give her the credit!  I thought it was a great idea, though!  Also, the charm was too silver for what I wanted, so I coloured on it with my Copic Marker E99 to give it a more copper or gold look.  Here's the closeup of the sand:

Make sure to check out the new challenge going on right now over at the DDH Blog - Anything but a Card!  I have a fantastic project to share with you next week for that challenge!

DDH Blog Hop - May Flowers

If you've been following along on the blog hop, then you've just arrived from the lovely Michelle's Blog.  Be sure to read all the way to the bottom of the post because we have prizes!   Our theme this month is May Flowers.  I chose to work with the beautiful Botanical Minis Set by Digi Design House.  I love it!  This card is a little different for me.  I tried layering up some stuff.  There is cardboard in there cut out with Tim Holtz Sizzix Tattered Florals Die and then painted with craft paint.  There's a Tim Holtz Idea-ology Fragment in there with a 7 Gypsies Printed Transperancy adhered to the back.  I also added a button, a black 1/2 pearl, hemp twine and another flower from the Tattered Florals Die.  Everything is distressed and sponged with black ink.  I coloured the image with my Copics.  I also coloured a second blossom so that I could curl the petals to add dimension.

Two mystery Design Team members will be giving away a digi set of your choice from Digi Design House to a random commenter on their blog post. You have until 6:00PM CST on Sunday, May 15 to comment. At 6:01PM, the number of comments will be tallied, and the random number generator will do its magic to pick the winner. You don't know which team members have the candy, so make sure you comment on EACH stop in the hop. Additionally, all of the names of our faithful (those of you who comment on EVERY stop on the hop) will be put in a hat to draw an additional set! Oh yes, we are giving away THREE FREE STAMP SETS!

Next stop on the blog hop is Dee's fabulous blog!

Up and Away!

I just love this new image from Hambo Stamps!  She's the adorable Balloon Girl - digi!  I coloured her with Copic Markers (hair-E99, E35, E34, YR20; sweater-R27, R24, R22; skin-E21, E00, E000; shading on DP-B95, YG03, Y17, Y21, RV95).  This is a design team project both for the challenge at Hambo Hoedown and at Penny's Paper-Crafty Challenge!  The challenge at Hambo Hoedown is paper piecing!  I just love paper piecing!  The colours can look so bright!  I used my Copic Markers on the patterned paper to add a little shading.  The challenge at Penny's Paper-Crafty Challenge is ANYTHING GOES!  I always love an anything goes challenge because it's a chance to really get creative!  I hand stitched embroidery thread around the oval and used my sewing machine for the stitching over the circles.  I coloured two of the girl so that I could cut one out and pop her up a little.  Here's the closeup:

Ladybug Dots

This week, I used the beautiful Buggy Postage by Digi Design House for the BLING challenge over at Digi Design House Blog!  I made up the card and was having so much fun making all those dots with Ranger Accent Enamel, that I completely forgot to add bling!  So I went back and added yellow rhinestones on the centres of all the flowers.  I coloured the image with my Copics (bug-R29, R27, R24, R22; leaves-YG17, YG07, YG03; flowers-YR18, YR15, Y17; Background-E000).  The charm, I decorated myself!  I created a tutorial on how to do it a little while ago.  You can find the tutorial here:  Dyed Enamel Tutorial.  I coloured a second ladybug, cut it out and popped it up for added dimension:
