Sparkly Mermaid

This is my first week hosting the Ways To Use It challenge at Splitcoaststampers!  The theme is Something Old, Something New.  This means use something that has been in your stash for at least 6 months and something you've had for less than 6 months!  It's a great way to use up your stash while still keeping things fresh!

For my card, I used my new digi stamp Mermaid Gilly by Prairie Fairy Designs.  The items that are old are the EK Success Fibre, and I've had that paper for ages!  I coloured the image with my Copic Markers (tail - R24, R22, R20; hair - E47, E99, E97, Y21; shells - YG17, YG07, YG03; skin - E21, E00, E000; bubbles - BG000).

There is a new challenge today at the Digi Design House Blog - Handmade Flowers!  Handmade flowers are always a challenge for me.  I just don't make a lot of them.  For this flower, I didn't follow a tutorial or anything.  I just cut small strips of paper and folded them in towards the centre.  I added a button on top to finish it off!  I used the adorable Beary Happy Day set by Digi Design House as my image and coloured it in with Copic Markers:  bears - E47, E99, E35, E34, E21; basket - R24, YR18, YR15, Y17; dress - B97, B95, B93, B91, YG93; apron - YG95, YG93, YG03.

Take Me Out to the Ballgame!

There's a new challenge today at Penny's Paper-Crafty Challenge Blog!  The challenge today is a project using Red, White & Blue.  This is a bit of a challenge for me because, I am American, but I've lived in Canada most of my life.  I have no call to give Independence Day cards.  So instead, I went for a baseball card.  This Go Team image was provided by Robyns Fetish for Penny's design team!  I love it when that happens!  I made additional baseballs with my circle punches, paper piercer and white gel pen.  The ribbon is kind of ruffled on the way down and then stitched into place.  The image is coloured with my Copic Markers (blue - B97, B95, B93, B91; red - R29, R27, R24, R22; peanuts - E35, E34, E21).

Other challenges I'm entering this card in:

Vintage Springtime

I am just so honoured!  Last week I was chosen as Top Chef at Catered Crop!  This gave me the opportunity to participate this week as a Guest Top Chef.  The recipe from this Bird's Nest Card is:
* Colors – blue, brown, kraft and green
* Stamps and Stickers – nature, birds and birdy things
* Color Mediums – Copic, craft paint
* Embellishments – pearls, beads, stick pins, crocheted/lace ribbon, recycled cardboard (fun!)
* Tools – paper pircer, sewing machine, distress tools, die cuts
* Techniques – paper piercing, sewing, distressing
* Theme – nature, birds, shabby chic

Now, if you've ever played at Catered Crop before, you know that for your new creation you just take the parts of the recipe that you want!  So here are the ingredients that I used:
birds, Copics, pearls, beads, stick pins, crocheted/lace ribbon, stitching, distressing, shabby chic

This is probably my most favourite recent card.  I LOVE this Graphic 45 paper (Once Upon a Springtime)!  The image is another favourite of mine, the Cherry Blossom Bird by DDH.  I coloured it in with my Copic Markers.  This is my first banner.  I cut out several triangles until I was happy with the shape of one, and then used it as a template for all the others.  It didn't take as long as it sounds.  : )  I've been hoarding these stick pins for a LONG time and decided it was high time I used them!  The beads are from my daughters' stash.  : D

Other challenges I'm entering this card in:
Crafts 4 Eternity - Embellishments that start with the letter 'R' (I used ribbon)
Simply Create - Wings
Stamp Something - Pretty Papers

Ruffles for Baby

There is a new challenge today for SCS's Ways To Use It challenge!  What is it this week?  A Vision in Vellum!  I don't use vellum very often, so I had to have a look to see if I had any!  I embossed the vellum with my Cuttlebug Swiss Dots Embossing Folder.  I thought it looked perfect for a baby card and my brother in law and his wife just had their first baby.  A sweet little girl named Sarah.  I made this card for them!  I used the image Sweet Little Donkey Freebie by Meljens Designs.  I coloured the image a while ago, so I'm not sure about the Copic colours but here is a guess:  pink-R24, R22, R20; peach hooves-E21, E00, E000; mane & tail-B91, YG93.  I found this cute lace at Wal-Mart But it was a little wide.  So I covered part of it with the grey taffeta ribbon!  I love the result!  I hope you get a chance to participate in the challenge!

Other challenges I'm entering this card in:
Crafts and Me - Bling It On!
2 Sisters Challenge Blog - Recipe - 3 Embellishments, 2 Papers, 1 Image

DDH Blog Hop - Fancy Folds

Welcome to the June Blog Hop for Digi Design House!  If you came from the DDH Blog, then you are at the right place!  If not, you may want to go back there to get started so you don't get lost!  Our theme this month is Fancy Folds!  Now I have to say, fancy folds terrify me.  So, I'm going with my old standby, the easel card.  I figured this would be good anyway because my father and father-in-law like to display their cards.  So this is the father's day card that I sent to each of them (although, technically, the one that went to my father-in-law came from my husband).  Anywho, this Wilderness image by Digi Design House is just perfect for both men because they love the outdoors and nature and all that stuff.  : )  I coloured the image with my Copic Markers:  Papa Bear - E47, E99, E35, E34, E21; Water - BG07, BG05, BG02, BG000; hillside - YG97, YG95, YG93, RV95; front tree - G99, YG17, YG95, YG03, YG93; background trees - YG97, YG95, YG93.  You'll see with my colour combos that I really wanted to create dimension with my scene.  I added some RV95 to the hillside to give it a little more of a greyish cast and used brighter colours as I came forward with the trees to really make it seem that they are closer.  Of course, I can't make a man-card without twine, so I added lots!

As per usual, there are fantastic prizes for commenting on the blog hop so make sure you read all the way to the bottoms to get all the details!

I popped out some of the images to really add to that dimension feel.

Three mystery Design Team members will be hiding a magic shovel in their fancy fold. This magic shovel will give you A Day at the Beach from Digi Design House just for commenting on their blog post. You have until 6:00PM CST on Sunday, June 12 to comment. At 6:01PM, the number of comments will be tallied, and the random number generator will do its magic to pick the winner. You don't know which team members have the magic shovel, so make sure you comment on EACH stop in the hop. Oh yes, we are giving away THREE FREE STAMP SETS!
Now, on to the beautiful Stephanie's blog!  Here's the hop order in case you get lost!

One Layer Wonder

The current challenge at the DDH Blog is One Layer Wonder!  This was a real challenge for me.  If you've seen any of my work, you know I love layers!  I procrastinated for quite a while before I finally buckled down to do it.  Once the ark was coloured in, I was already happy with it, but ssooooo afraid of messing the rest of it up!  I wanted the water to look swirly, so I didn't do a ton of blending there.  I really love the result!  The image is Noah's Ark by Digi Design House and I coloured it in with my Copic Markers.
Copic Marker Colours:
Ark - E49, E47, E99, E35, E34, E21
Water - BG07, BG05, BG02, BG000

The Mermaid Tale

I have some VERY exciting news!  I'm now part of the Ways to Use It Challenge Team at  Splitcoaststampers!  I'm so very excited!  The challenge happens every Thursday, and I'll be hostessing about once a month!  Now, I'm not the hostess this week, our fearless leader, Michelle Single will be doing that.  But I certainly wanted to play along!  So the challenge this week is to use die cuts!  I used a couple of die cuts on my card.  The circle and scallop circle are die cuts from Spellbinders and the flowers are from the Tim Holtz Sizzix Tattered Florals Die.

The image I've used is the lovely Marina by Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps and I coloured her with my Copic Markers (Tail & Hair Streaks - BG07, BG05, BG02, BG000; Skin - E34, E21, R22; Hair - E47, E99, E35, E34; Yellow Stripes - Y17, Y13; Fish - YG95, YG17, YG93).   I added some zigzag machine stitching before I remembered that the challenge at Kraftin' Kimmie is HAND STITCHING.  So I pulled the circle back off the card and added some hand stitching with embroidery floss.

When I saw this stamp used by Melanie at Paper Blessings, I just had to try the colouring technique she discribed!  So I bought a few more Copic Markers and the stamp to try it out.  I started with the green one, but then I couldn't stop!  Each evening I would colour a new mermaid!  My kids couldn't wait to get out of bed each morning to see what colour the next one was!  This is definately my new favourite stamp!

Other challenges I'm entering this card in:
Kraftin' Kimmie - Hand Stitching
One Crazy Stamper - Colours of the Rainbow
