Sweet Alice

There are two posts today so to see the bright and playful Hambo Hoedown card, please scroll down!

The new challenge at Penny's Paper-Crafty Challenge is a Recipe: 1 image, 2 embellies, 3 dp's!  Stitchy Bear Stamps gave Penny's Design Team some images to work with for this challenge!  I chose the super-cute Alice.  She was already shaded which made it so much easier for me to colour in the dark and light areas.  I usually struggle with the light source and shading, so this took the guess work out!  I coloured Alice with my Copic Markers (dress-YR18, YR15, Y17, YR21; apron & socks-Y17, YR21, Y21; skin-E21, E00, E000; lips-R24, YR15; eyes-BG45, BG07, BG02; hair-E99, E97, Y21).  My 9 year old daughter has claimed this card for her next birthday.  I think perhaps that this card may be better for a teenager, but she just adores this one!

I took the 2 embellies to mean two different types of embellishments (I couldn't limit it to one flower!).  So I added the flowers and ribbon.  I still felt like it needed more so I added some flourishes with my paper piercer.  Actually, I used some of the SU designer paper that goes in this pack to line up my flourishes:

It's time agian for another Hambo Hoedown!  This super cute Caterpillar - digi by Hambo Stamps was paper pieced!  Whenever I don't have the Copic colours that I want (which is a lot, because I only have about 30), I paper piece!  I just love this dotted sparkle green dp from Doodlebugs!  It's just the perfect colour for this adorable caterpillar!  I was trying to make it look like she'd been trying on shoes and was just throwing them over her shoulder.  I don't know if that came across, but that's alright!

Sunflower Birthday

This is my last guest designer card for The Stamping Boutique!  As soon as I saw this sweet Sunflower Girl - digi, I thought of my sister.  Her favourite flower is sunflowers!  The challenge at TSB Challenge Blog is Handmade Flowers.  I decided to go for this challenge because I'm afraid of it!  I've tried and tried to make my own flowers without very positive results.  When I saw this Rolls Flowers Video by Katharina Frei, I thought, "I can do that!"  It took me a couple of tries, but I love the result!  I tried to push out the edges a little with my finger to make the flower "petals" stand out a little.  Then I filled the centres with Lime Green Stickles.  The image is coloured with Copics (hair-E35, #34, YR21, YR20; skin-E21, E00, E000; blues-B97, B95, B93, B91; yellows-Y21, YR21, YR20; grass & stem-YG97, YG95, YG93; fence-E99, E35, E34, E21; sky-B91; flower-E97, Y21, YR21).

Butterfly Shimmer & A Tutorial!

Hello all, and happy spring!  The snow is finally starting to melt up here and we can see the pavement again!  We won't get any grass or flowers for a while yet, but it's a start!  Today's card is a design team card for Digi Design House!  I just love this beautiful butterfly from the Portfolio Collection!  On several other cards, I've used this technique that I can only describe as Shimmery Watercolour.  I've only ever used in when rubber stamping though (examples:  Lovin' You, Silent Night, Tattered Tag).   I wanted to see if I could use it with a digital stamp.  And I can!  Woohoo!  So, I've included a tutorial at the bottom of this post!

Remember to check out the current challenge going on this fortnight at DDH Blog!

Challenges I've entered this card in:
Simon Says Stamp - Mother's Day/ Girlie
Alphabet Challenge - U for Up in the Air
Cardmadfairy's Digi Days - Back to Nature
The Stamp Man - Anything Tim

Have a wonderful Monday!
Hannah

Supplies:
Stamps:
Paper:  Kaisercraft, Neenah White, SU Cardstock - Riding Hood Red, Pumpkin Pie, Whisper White, Pixie Pink
Ink:  SU - Riding Hood Red, Pumpkin Pie, Pixie Pink, Blush Blossom
Accessories:  Tattered Angels Pearl Glimmer Mist, Prima 1/2 Pearls, Orange Organdy Ribbon
Tools:  Cuttlebug Embossing Folder - Divine Swirls

I want to make it clear that this is NOT my original technique!  I saw it first on a video Tim Holtz did for his 12 Tags of Christmas.  You can watch his original video here.

And here is the Shimmery Watercolour Tutorial, as promised!

Supplies needed:  Ink, Tattered Angels Pearl Glimmer Mist (or some sort of shimmer spray), cardstock (I've tried SU's Whisper White and Copic X-Press It Cardstock and both have worked fine), heat tool, Ranger Inkssentials Mini Mister, Ranger Inkssentials Craft Sheet

Smear ink onto craft sheet.  This works with Distress Inks and SU Inks so I imagine this will work with any dye based ink.

Starting with the lightest colour, add colours here and there until most of the area is covered (they don't have to overlap though).

Spray ink with water (I used a Mini Mister) until the ink and water beads up.

Spray over top of the water and ink with Glimmer Mist.  You could use only Glimmer Mist instead of water, but you would use so much more and that's more $$$'s!  I spray over the ink and water 8 to 10 times.

Place your cardstock facedown on the ink/water/mist mixture.  Drag the cardstock through the colours rather than pressing it down.

If you didn't get all the colours, drag the cardstock through again.  When you achieve the colours you like move on to the next step.  You can use this ink/water/mist mixture again for several pieces of cardstock.  So have some ready!

Use your heat tool to dry the cardstock.  Make sure it is all dry before you move to the next step!

Sponge ink onto any parts that need a little more colour.  I added more red down the outside edges of the butterfly.  There you have it!  You have a colourful, shimmery image to work with!  You can use blank cardstock and then stamp over it like this card, or you can use a digi image already on the cardstock like the butterfly we used today!  Thanks so much for visiting me today!

Oh Sweet Spring

This is my first post as a DT member for Fairy Fun Fridays!  It's so exciting!  I used the Cute Chicks - digi by Prairie Fairy Designs on this layout.  The challenge at Fairy Fun Fridays this time is Oh So Spring!  We still have two feet of snow up here, but I can still see the signs of spring!  There are kids at the playgrounds, people are out jogging and I can here the drip, drip, drip of things melting!  Yay!  I can't wait to experience the Yukon's long days of Spring and Summer!

I coloured the image in with my Copic Markers(chicks-Y17, Y21; skin-E21, E00, E000; hair-E99, E97, Y21; dress, hairband, glasses-YG17, YG07, YG03).

Caffeine Now, Please!

Isn't this Coffee Girl - digi by Hambo Stamps just adorable!?  It's challenge time over at Hambo Hoedown!  The challenge this week?  A wonderful sketch by Silke!  I personally don't drink coffee, but I can certainly understand the sentiment here!  I've been so tired this week I really debated about giving in!  I coloured the girl's skin and the cup with my Copic Markers (skin-E21, E00, E000; Cup-R24, E99).  Her dress is paper pieced.  I think I've finally gotten the hang of using my sewing machine, so you'll see lots of stitching on my cards!

Relaxing Birthday

This is another Guest DT card for The Stamping Boutique!  I just love this bathtub girl from the  Relax Kit by The Stamping Boutique!  I coloured her in with my Copics (skin-E21, E00, E000, pillow & eye mask-E97, Y21, tub-B95, B91, YG93) on Bazzill Prism White Cardstock.  I've been experimenting with different cardstocks to see if I can find my favourite.  I'll post a review when I'm finished!  This card is for a challenge at Everybody Art Challenge.  The challenge is to make a birthday card.  Isn't this perfect for a girlfriend?  If you are wondering about the charm, this is another of my Dyed Enamel Charms!  You can find the tutorial here:  Dyed Enamel Tutorial.

The Gem Fairy

Of all the sets that are available at Digi Design House, I have to say that the Portfolio Collection - digi set is by far my favourite!  I think you get a lot of 'bang for your buck' because of the number and variety of the stamps in the set.  Plus, it is the only set with this gorgeous fairy!  This was my first requested set when I found out I was going to be on their design team!  I coloured the fairy with my Copics (wings-R27, R24, R20; dress-YG95, YG93; hair-E97, YR21, YR20; skin-E21, E00, E000) and accented her wings with rhinestones from My Mind's Eye.  I distressed the edges of the patterned paper, but left the cardstock along (okay maybe with some light sponging).  I like the distressed paper next to the clean paper!  The ribbon that I had looked too thick, so I twisted it into a spiral to make it look thiner.  It ended up adding some great dimension!

This card is for the sketch challenge at Digi Design House Blog.  If you have some time this week, play along!  The winner gets a free digi from Digi Design House!  Awesome!

Feeling Frazzled?

I have so much to say today, that this post will probably be a little more wordy (WHAT?!  It's a word!) than most!

First of all, I've joined the Prairie Fairy Design Team!  I am so excited to be working with a fabulous and energetic, not to mention, extremely talented bunch of ladies!  I love the absolutely adorable Prairy Fairy digital stamps!  I've just started on my first project, my first Prairy Fairy post will be soon!

On to the card!  As soon as I saw this adorable Charlotte by Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps, I knew exactly what she meant to me!  I see a frazzled mom cleaning up after her kids AGAIN!  So I've made this silly card for my wonderful sister!  I coloured Charlotte in with my Copic Markers (Hair-E99, E35, E34, YR21, YR20; Skin-E21, E00, E000; Blue-BG45, BG07; Pink-R22, R20; Green-YG17, YG07. YG03).

Also, this is my favourite post of the week!  It's my CHALLENGE POST!  Woohoo!  I've chosen some wonderful challenges this week!  So without further ado, here are this weeks challenges:

Kraftin' Kimmie - Anything Goes!
I've played a few time with the Kraftin' Kimmie Challenges, but I never had one of her stamps!  Charlotte is my first!  So I just had to play this week's challenge!

Copic Creations - Blues!
I like to play these Copic challenges because, well, my Copics are new to me.  Plus I just got a new blue trio yesterday!  What could be better?!

Moxie Fab World - Tuesday Trigger

I have to admit that in years past, I've been button-shy.  I don't know why, but there it is.  So for this week's Tuesday Trigger I decided to go with a button cluster.

Do You Stack Up? - A Bow
This has become a challenge staple for me!  I just love their challenges!  So I made sure to add a bow on my card.  It's teeny-tiny, and made out of embroidery thread.

Card Positioning Systems - Sketch

I rotated the sketch and added a sentiment!

I hope you all have an absolutely fabulous day!

Distressed Rose

Digi Design House now has a Blog!  Be sure to check out new challenges every other week!  The current challenge is DISTRESSING!  I love distressing!  So, as you can see, most of the papers are distressed.  The image is Cottage Rose - digi by Digi Design House and is coloured with Copic Markers (Roses - R29, R27, R24, R20; Leaves & Stem - YG97, YG95, YG93; Ribbon - R20).  The crocheted ribbon was died using Real Red Reinker so that it would match.  But the photo corner is my favourite part!  Using my photo corner punch, I punched out a red piece and a piece out of some acetate packaging that I had laying around (love recycling!).  I then ran the acetate corner through my Cuttlebug using the Tim Holtz Texure Fade - Collage.  To make the texture stand out a little more, I swiped my Craft Whisper White Ink over it.  I glued it on using my glue gun.  Here's a close-up:

The Cookie Fairy

My daughter Taylor (age 9) named this one "The Cookie Fairy".  Ever since I discovered Whiff of Joy Stamps, I thought that a lot of these cute little children would look so sweet with wings!  I should note that some of them do have wings, I just wanted wings on this girl.    Willow with Cookies is so sweet and fun to colour!  I coloured her with my Copic Markers (Hair - E99, E97, Y21; Skin - E21, E00, E000; Shirt - R24, R20; Apron - YG97, YG95, YG93; Jeans - B97, B95, B93, B91; Slippers - R24, R20).

I covered the wings in sparkles and curved the top wing up so that it sticks out from the card.

The flower is made out of dryer sheets.  No, you heard me right - dryer sheets!  I found a tutorial over at Gabrielle's blog Such a Pretty Mess and I just had to try it!

This is rapidly becoming my favourite post of the week!  Once a week, I pick 4 or 5 challenges that I love to play (and have awesome prizes, I might add) and make a card to fit the challenges!  It is so much fun!  So here are the challenges I'm playing today in no particular order:

One Crazy Stamper - Sketch Challenge
I only just discovered that one of my favourite stores has a monthly challenge!  I HAVE to play!  I buy all of my Copics here!  I even bought the stamp I used on this card here!  Plus this sketch was just so fun!

Do You Stack Up? - Layers
This is becoming one of my favourite challenges.  I love the themes they have!  This one is layers and since all of my cards have several layers - easy peasy!

Crafty Creations - Use Baby Blue
Baby blue isn't something I use a lot of, but I had some awesome baby blue patterned paper!

Fairy Tale Challenge Blog - Something for a child or with a child's image.
This challenge is a new one for me.  I think the sweet image I used looks just like my daughter, Taylor!

Crafty Purple Frog Challenges - Something with wings
This is what inspired the wings today!  The sparkly wings turn a cute little girl into a cute little fairy!

I hope you've all had as much fun as I have!  Have a wonderful day!

Rag Doll Easel

Exciting Announcement!  This month I'll be guest designing for The Stamping BoutiqueI've had such a fun time choosing images to work with!  This one may just be my favourite!  I used to have a doll that looked like this when I was little.  I was wishing for a wider colour assortment of Copic Markers (I only have 23) but it turned out I had the colours that went with the paper I wanted!  Yay!

So The Stamping Boutique is sponsering a challenge over at Charisma Cardz Challenges.  The challenge is to make an easel card.  Believe it or not, this is my first easel card!  I followed the directions using the SCS tutorial on Easel Cards.  Turns out, it was a lot easier than I thought!  The image is Rag Doll Sitting - digi by The Stamping Boutique and is coloured in with Copic Markers (Hair - E99, E97, YR21; Skin - E21, E00, E000; Red - R24; Blue - E95, E91, YG93; Yellow - Y21, YR21, YR20).  The stitching was done by hand using my Paper Piercer, SU Mat Pack and embroidery floss (I seriously need to learn to use my sewing machine!).  All other details you'll find in the supply list below.

Lucky Hamster

It's Wednesday, which means another fantastic challenge at Hambo Hoedown!  This week, we're using GOLD!  I searched my craftroom and there was not a single gold component (I'm more of a silver girl)!  So I raided my kids' craft stuff and found some Gold Glitter Glue.  Perfect!  So the image is St. Pat Hamster - digi from Hambo Stamps.  So cute!  I coloured it with my Copic Markers (Green - YG97, YG95, YG93, Yellow - YR21, YR20, Pot - E99, E97, YR21, Hamster - E99, E35, E34, E21).  I just printed the sentiment out on my computer.  To finish off, I added the gold glitter glue to the coin and the button embellishment.

Lovin' Challenges! & Blog Candy Winner!

I'll start off with the winner of my Blog Candy!  Thanks so much to everyone who participated!  I really appreciate all the support you all have shown me in my effort to grow my blog!  It was beyond my expectations!  So here is our winner:

Jude

Congrats Jude!  Please email me with your contact info and I'll get you that gift certificate right away!  Thanks so much, everyone!  Now, on to the card info!

Last week I created a card based on my favourite (or new to me) challenges.  I had so much fun, that I'd like to try to make that a weekly occurance!  These cards will not be design team cards, I'll just use images from my stash!

This card looks so bright!  I stamped the bird from the Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous - Urban Tapestry set with Tim Holtz Distress Ink - Black Soot and embossed with black embossing powder.  I love that Distress Inks stay wet long enough to emboss with!  I smeared various inks onto my craft mat and then spritzed over the ink with water and Tattered Angels Pearl Glimmer Mist.  I pulled the cardstock through the coloured, wet mess and dried it with my heat tool.  Then I started sponging ink onto areas that I thought needed a little more colour.  I cut the image into three squares and inked the edges of each square.  The sentiment was printed out with my label maker.

Here's the challenges I entered (in no particular order):

     1 Image
     2 Patterned Papers
     3 Different Types of Embellishment

I did only use one image (although I cut it into three pieces), you can see the two patterned papers, and my three embellishments are the rhinestone flourish, white taffeta ribbon, and the tiny pink pearl at the bottom!

Kraftin' Kimmie - Scoopy Scallops
I made sure to put scallops on my card so that I could enter this challenge!  I love her stuff!  I've been preparing an order to put in, 'cause her stamps are just so darn cute!

Prairie Fairy Fridays - Inspired by a Song
I just love challenges like this!  Music can be a fantastic way to inspire you papercrafting creations!  I just watched Megamind with my kids and laughed along with everyone else when I heard, "Lovin' You" by Minnie Riperton.  I used to sing that song to my kids when they were babies!  As I started thinking about that song, I thought about the birds you hear in the music.  Thus, the bird image!

ABC Challenge - P is for Pink
This challenge was the deciding factor for my main colour!  It goes perfectly with the other challenges too!

I hope you all have an absolutely fantastic day!
Hannah

My Mane Man

For the DDH Blog Hop, please scroll down to the next post!

If you are looking for my BLOG CANDY, be sure to check it out here!  It's available until March 3rd!  ONLY 1 DAY LEFT!!!

This card is actually combined for two different design teams!  Here they are in no particular order:

The challenge this week at Hambo Hoedown is to make a masculine card with stripes!

The challenge at Penny's Paper-Crafty Challenge is to use the colour green!

I used this cute Lion - digi from Hambo Stamps.  I coloured him in with my Copics (Mane - E97, YR21; Body - E99, E35, E34; Can - R24, E21).  I left his shirt for paper piecing.  I didn't even know that you could paper piece a digital stamp!  A friend pointed out this Digital Paper Piecing Tutorial over at Tiffany Doodles!  I thought, "I can do that!"  So that's what I did with the lion's shirt!  For a little added detail, I added faux stitching with my paper piercer and SU's Chocolate Chip Marker.

Supplies:
Stamps:  Lion digi by Hambo Stamps
Paper:  Patterned Paper - DCWV, SU Cardstock - Kraft, Chocolate Chip
Ink:  SU - Creamy Caramel, Chocolate Chip, Wild Wasabi

DDH Blog Hop!!!

If you are looking for my BLOG CANDY, be sure to check it out here!  It's only available for two more days, until March 3rd!

You may remember a couple of weeks ago I announced that I'm now part of the brand new Dream Team for Digi Design House!  As our first post, we're having a BLOG HOP!  We're all so very excited!  We have BLOG CANDY as part of our hop!  Make sure you read all the way to the bottom of the post so you can find out how to win!  I've been blown away by all the beautiful images available from Digi Design House!  I decided to start with this one:

The theme for our blog hop is Follow Your Dreams!  I debated for a while what image I should use (it's hard to choose from so many beautiful images!)  I just kept coming back to this Just Bee-Cuz set.  (Seriously, I LOVE that these images come in sets!)  I have always wanted to keep bees.  I love how busy they are, always having a purpose, plus they make honey!  So I'm hoping one day to achieve my dream of keeping bees!  If you've been following the hop for a couple of blogs already, then you've just arrived from Dee's wonderful blog!  The next stop on the blog hop sends you to Mandi-Lee!

I coloured in the hive image with my Copics (E97, YR21, Y21, YG95, YG93, E99, E34).  The seperate bees are popped up and covered with Ranger Inkssentials Glossy Accents.  I also added some stitching with embroidery thread and Fine and Dandy trim for details.  Here's the inside of the card:

As part of the blog hop, we've been asked to share a little about ourselves.  I'm a family oriented person.  I love my husband of 11 years and my three sweet girls (ages 9, 6, and 2).  My girls love to papercraft with me!  They have all their own supplies though, because I don't share very well : )!  Every spare moment I get, I'm down in my craft room!  I love to create cards and scrapbook pages.  My favourite colours are autumn colours (think the colours of sunset).  Particularly sunset orange!  I love stitching and distressing too!  I applied for the Digi Design House design team because I just love their beautiful images!  I could totally see myself using them!

Three mystery Design Team members will be giving away the Cool Chicks set from Digi Design House to a random commenter on their blog post. You have until 6:00PM CST on Thursday, March 3 to comment. At 6:01PM, the number of comments will be tallied, and the random number generator will do its magic to pick the winner. You don't know which team members have the candy, so make sure you comment on EACH stop in the hop. Additionally, all of the names of our faithful (those of you who comment on EVERY stop on the hop) will be put in a hat to draw an additional set! Oh yes, we are giving away FOUR FREE STAMP SETS!
