Metallic Leaves

It's my turn to host the challenge at Fairy Fun Fridays!!!  The challenge is Inspired by a Book (or by the book cover art).  I had this book sitting on my nightstand and was just inthralled by the cover art!

I started with a black background.  I wanted to make something that looked like the gears, so I used a Tim Holtz Timeworks Mask and sponged ink onto my patterned paper.  For the leaves, they're cut out of the Broken China Cardstock with the Tattered Leaves Die.  Then I ran them through the Cracked Texture Fade for texture.  They are sanded and then inked with Black Soot Ink.  I still didn't think they looked metal enough.  So I sprayed them with Pearl Glimmer Mist.  While they were wet, they were easy to curl up.  I think they look just perfect!   Prairie Fairy Designs has two images that seemed to go with that key perfectly!  So I used Key to my Heart and Vintage Lock & Key and coloured then with Copic Markers (colours listed below).  Here's some detail shots:

I put Crystal Stickles on all the flowers and dyed my hemp twine with Black Soot Ink.

The prize for the challenge is $20 to spend in the Prairy Fairy Designs store!  So, head on over to Fairy Fun Fridays and play along!

Challenges I'm entering this layout in:
Paper Crafting Journey - Anything Goes
The Sisterhood of Crafters - Flower Power
Stampin' Royalty - Bring on the Bling!

Victorian Lime

I'm hosting Splitcoaststampers Ways to Use It Challenge this week!  Ever since I saw Tim Holtz use some plastic packaging on one of his Christmas tags, I've been addicted to the technique!  So the challenge this week is RECYCLING!!!  For my card today, I recycled some plastic packaging and made the leaves that you see on the tree!  I really love how they turned out!  I've included a tutorial in this post to show you how I made them!  The image is Owlette by Tiddly Inks and she comes with that tree!  She's coloured with Copic Markers (see colours below).  This is the first time I've attempted to add pleats with markers alone.  I really love how they turned out!  Of course, I can see all the flaws because I made them, but all in all I think it's alright!  I also used the Steampunk Digi Paper and Steampunk Sentiments Pack also from Tiddly Inks

So here's the tutorial, as promised!  Can you help me name it?

To start, you'll need:  White Craft Paint, Paintbrush, Embossing Folder, Plastic Packaging, Scissors, Copic Marker

Start by hand cutting a few leaves out of the plastic packaging.

Emboss the plastic leaves with your favourite embossing folder (this one is Cuttlebug Mesh).

This is what they'll look like embossed.

Paint one side of the leaf.  For this one, I wanted the paint to stay down in the dimpled portions, so that's the side I chose.

Rub your finger along the painted side to take off the excess paint.  Now just the dimples are painted.

Turn the leaf over and colour on the side opposite of the paint with a Copic Marker.  Because Copics are alcohol ink, the ink will dry quickly and then stay on!

You're done!  Just think of the possibilities!  I want to make a tree with fall leaves!

Other challenges I'm entering this card in:
Digital Tuesday - Cute and Girly
Corrosive Challenges - Girly

Supplies:
Stamps: Owelette and tree, Steampunk Sentiment Pack both by Tiddly Inks
Paper:  Steampunk Digi Paper Pack by Tiddly Inks, Fancy Pants DP, Copic X-Press It Cardstock, SU Cardstock - Basic Black
Ink:  SU - Gable Green, Basic Black
Accessories:  Hemp Twine (dyed black), Flower from I Love Roses, Crystal Stickles, Pop Up Dots, Plastic Packaging, White Craft Paint
Tools:  Cuttlebug Mesh Embossing Folder, Tim Holtz Sizzix Tattered Leaves Die
Copics:  Green on Dress & Hat-G99, YG17, YG03, YG00 with C9 and C6 for shadows; Black on dress & Hat-C9, C8, C6; Hair-E47, E99, E97, Y21; Skin-E34, E21, E00; Owl-E47, E99, E97

Soft Waterlilly

Lately, I've had to get creative to find some time to make cards.  My kids have another week until school starts, the weather has been rainy and so I have bored and anxious kids under foot!  So today, I tried something new.  I have a futon directly in front of my workspace.  So I set the kids up with a movie and bedding so they could play 'sleepover' while I crafted!  It worked!  This is the card I came up with!  The Water Lilly is coloured with Copic Markers (colours listed below) and then cut out.  The postcard is part of the Once Upon a Springtime paperpack by Graphic 45.  I distressed some edges, added some sparkle, and then framed a flower.  I love how it turned out!  Thanks for visiting today!

Kreepy Krafty Hop!

Welcome to the Kraftin' Kimmie Kreepy Krafty Hop!  If you've just arrived here from Diana's blog, then you are at the right place!  If not, head on over to the Kraftin' Kimmie Challenge Blog to start at the beginning!

For my card I've used Belinda Bones, now available at the Kraftin' Kimmie Shop!  She's coloured with Copic Markers (colours listed below).  I added some stitching in black thread, which you hardly see.  So then I went and accented the stitching with a White Gel Pen.  I'm not entirely pleased with the result, but it's cute.  The flower is a fabric flower from Wal-Mart.  I Halloween-ified it (what, that's a word!) by colouring on the tips of the petals with a black marker.  Then I added some Crystal Stickles.

As you’ve seen over the last few days in our Krafty Peeks, we have lots of SPOOKTACULAR new stamps for you to play with for HALLOWEEN!  There are three new ADORABLE LITTLE WITCHIES from Cheryl Alger, five new HALLOWEEN FUN stamps from Emilie Goulet and six awesome new BATTY PRINCESS AND FRIENDS stamps from Annie Rodrigue!!
