My Girl & Me

I just did up a quick page today for the Splitcoaststampers Digital Scrapbooking Challenge.  I'm hosting the challenge today and I'm going to make it a simple one:  use orange.  October always makes me think of the colour orange with Halloween and pumpkins.  It's such a warm colour!  I hope you get a chance to play the challenge this week!

Tags & Labels

Alright, I've got a fun post for you today!  My eldest daughter turned 11 last month.  We're only just now getting around to her birthday party. We decided on a spa party!  I kept things simple with facials and pedicures.  The girls had so much fun!  I made the tags for the gift bags.  I wanted the girls to be able to put their names on their bags because they had moisturizer and toe separators to use from the bag before going home.  I made matching labels for the water bottles, also so the girls could put their names on them!  The cupcakes are fabulous Pink Lemonade Cupcakes!!!  They've become a new family favourite in my house!  You can find the recipe here:  Pink Lemonade Cupcakes.  I just want to show you one more thing:

I got tired of the hats and mitts being left all over the entryway!  I had this idea a while ago so I was just waiting for some baskets I liked to go on sale!  I picked these up for $3 a piece at Superstore.  Then, of course, I didn't want the girls fighting over who's basket was who's.  So I made these fabulous tags:

I kept the tags super simple.  I used some Co-ordinations cardstock with some Bo Bunny DP.  My white craft ink and white stazon ink pads were completely dry.  So to improvise, I stamped these snowflakes with craft paint.  The letters are cut out with Cuttlebug Babyface dies.  The jumbo eyelets are SU and I got the baker's twine from Can You Digi It?

Curly Girl

Well, it's true.  I've given up my hairbrush, my blowdryer, and even my shampoo (*gasp!*) in an effort to bring out my natural curls.  Guess what?  It's working!  I'm loving the new look (most days) and have been taking lots of iphone-in-the-mirror pictures of myself and even individual curls!  I thought it would be fun to make a layout of my progress.  My Mother inspired me to go curly when she bought me this book:

The Curly Girl Handbook

It has changed my life!  Not only that, I've been able to adjust the care of my eight year old daughter's hair and instead of wearing a ponytail every day, she's wearing those curls loud and proud!  I'll have to take a picture tomorrow and share it!  (Or make another layout!)

The fabulous thing about this layout?  Everything in it is my design!!!  That's right!  I used mostly my Butterfly Bliss digital kit with the exception of the background paper which is from Shabby Melody.

I'm using this layout to host the Splitcoaststampers Digital Scrapbooking Challenge.  The challenge is called At An Angle.  So I set the entire layout at an angle (though my watermark now looks off to me - haha).  I hope you get a chance to play!

Texture Mosaic

I've made this card for today's Splitcoaststampers Ways To Use It Challenge.  The challenge is to use markers in a way other than colouring an image.  I absolutely love texture, so I decided to make a textured mosaic.  I ran pieces of recycled packaging through various embossing folders.  Then I coloured the back of each piece with Copic Markers.  It was fun to piece the bits together!

Have a fabulous day!

I don't know if you've noticed, but my posting has been pretty light over the last couple of months.  I've been taking a much needed break as well as improving my designing skills.  Thanks for your patience!  I'm hoping to get back on track now with a regular posting schedule.

Today's post serves a dual purpose.  First and foremost, I made this card for my mother.  She fell this week and not only broke her wrist but she fractured something in her shoulder too.  I knew that she wouldn't want your typical get well card (rain, sad or sick faces, etc.).  She'd want something to make her SMILE!  So, I'm sending her a smile!  This image from Mo's Digital Pencil always reminds me of my sweet 8 year old, Emily.  So I coloured her hair to match Emily's.  It just also happens to match mine and my mothers, but that's just a happy coincidence.  :)

My second purpose is the Splitcoaststampers Ways To Use It Challenge!  So the challenge this week is Smile!  Making cards just to cheer people up!  I hope you have the opportunity to come and play!

If you haven't seen it yet, make sure to check out my freebie digital scrapbooking kit Freebie Kit: You & Me.

I'm also entering this in the Lovely Layers challenge at Mo's Digital Challenge

Baptism Day

Today's new challenge for Splitcoaststampers Digital Scrapbooking Challenge is to use your stash.  Yes, this applies to digital scrapbooking!  What have you bought and then never used?  For me, it was Pink Paislee's Stella Papers & Embellishments.  As I was looking through photos, I thought these cute ones from my daughter's baptism would be perfect!  I didn't do anything particularly fancy with it.  I just used a custom shape on the top for the wave and then the embellishments that came with the kit!

Have you noticed that I've started designing myself?  Here's some posts about it:

Musical Magnets

For today's Splitcoaststampers Ways To Use It Challenge, I'm asking everyone to use a musical something on their project.  I love Tim Holtz's musical Tissue Tape!  I was able to make this quick and easy gift.  I cut out several circles out of cardstock, covered them with tissue tape, inked them up, and adhered them to some Tim Holtz Fragments.  I glued a magnet on the back and VOILA!  A beautiful and simple gift!  Here's the shot of the set of five:

Oh, To Dance!

It's time for a new Digital Scrapbooking challenge at Splitcoaststampers!  It's my turn to host, and the theme is From the Movies.  The idea is to use a line from a movie as the title of your layout.  As you can see, I don't actually have a title on my layout.  I felt it was too busy for one.  So if you look on the circle at the bottom left, you'll see my movie quote.  It says, "Dancing is about being exactly who you want to be in that moment."  It's from Dirty Dancing:  Havana Dancing, but I wasn't going to put that on the page.  :)

My Jessi sure loves to dance.  All of the photos came out blurry, but I don't care.  They show her really getting down!

I used Pink Paislee's Happy Now Paper Pack and Happy Now Element Pack and Carina Gardner's Photocuts Frames V.1

I hope you have a fabulous day!

Sweet Children of Mine

Over the next few weeks, you are going to notice some changes to my blog.  Even the name is going to change *gasp*!!  The first change you'll see though is that I no longer design for Tiddly Inks.  This was such a difficult decision to make!  I really love their images and the artist, Christy, is so fabulous!  Here's how fabulous she is...

Before I'd decided to leave the team, I put in a request for images.  I wanted to find some that represented my three daughters.  Even after I left the team, Christy sent me this sweet Sisters image.  I loved it!  With her permission (thanks, Christy!), I tweaked things a bit to have them represent my girls more specifically.

My youngest, Jessi, has the most sunny personality I've ever seen!  She sings and dances all day long!  Her hair is a vibrant copper-red, so I coloured it that way.  My eldest, Taylor, has a book with her wherever she goes.  She loves to learn, loves to read, and asks a million questions because she just has to know the answers!  My middle child, Emily, is sweet and girly, with a morbid edge.  She loves skulls and the colour black, but is also into tierras and sparkles.

I'm a little bored of cards at the moment, so I decided to make a wall hanging out of this image.  I grabbed an old photo frame (I have a pile of them to pick from), sanded it down and repainted it.  After painting, I sanded some of the paint off on the corners and edges.  Then sealed the whole thing with an acrylic sealer.

I coloured my image with Copic markers (I was on holiday at the time and didn't make note of which ones, sorry).  I inked and distressed the edges of every piece of paper.  The sentiment was simply printed off my computer after searching for fun sister quotes.  I added some embellishments with my glue gun and voila!  I fun piece of art for their bedroom!

I created this piece for the Ways To Use It challenge today at Splitcoaststampers.  The challenge theme is Sweet Child of Mine.  I think this fits!

Here's a closeup of the image:

This is my favourite detail!  I took a couple of hinges from one of Tim Holtz's Grungeboard Sets, dyed them with Tumbled Glass Distress Reinker, swiped them with a Rusty Hinge Distress Ink Pad, and glued them to the side of the frame.

Supplies I've used:  SU Brads, Distress Ink - Vintage Photo, Rusty Hinge, Tumbled Glass, Antique Linen, Cream craft paint, sand paper, Maya Road pin, Prima burlap flower, SU ribbon, Prima wood button, 7 Gypsies metal "3" tab, Prima metal flower, Prima Art Tile, SU Cutter Kit

5 Things I Love

There's a contest going on at Jessica Sprague!  The challenge is to create a layout naming five things you love.  I just had these beautiful professional photos taken of myself by my good friend Johanna of Birds on a Wire Photography!  I love how they turned out!  Thanks, Johanna!  My layout is inspired by another good friend, Kasandra Mathieson.  Most of her layouts have a picture as a background image, so that's what I went with!

I kept the layout fairly simple.  All supplies are from Jessica Sprague.  I used Carina Gardner's Essentials Collection and Pink Paislee's Bohemian Bliss Element Pack.  I added some distressing brushes that I created myself.

Thanks so much for visiting today!

Me Too!!

I know I've been neglecting you!  If you're still with me, I sure appreciate it!  I've taken a much needed break from crafting.  I have some plans in the works, so you probably won't see much of me through the summer.  But I promise that I'll be back to a full posting schedule soon!

As an announcement, I'm happy to say that I'm now a co-hostess of the Digital Scrapbooking Challenges at Splitcoaststampers!  The challenge today is called Less is More.  It may not look like it on my page, but this really is a Less is More theme.  For this layout I went easy on the time consuming techniques!  That was a real challenge for me!

I hope you have a chance to come and check out our challenges!

Thanks for visiting today!

Fun Skirt!

So I just got these Spellbinders Decorative Dress Forms and I've been just dying to try them out!  I absolutely love what Beate can make with these!  I'll be playing with them some more, for sure!!!  I'm hosting the Splitcoaststampers Ways To Use It Challenge today.  When I chose the challenge several months ago, I had NO IDEA how much I would not want to do it today!  Haha!  So the challenge is "For The Birds."  My birds are very tiny but they are definitely there!  That little square is a Prima Tile.  It has a bunch of blue birds in the bottom left corner.  For the skirt on the dress form, I folded some patterned paper, then added some tulle trim by Glitz Designs, some SU ribbon, and a Prima Flower.  The necklace is made of pearls from Zva Creative.

Other supplies I used:  Spellbinders Curved Rectangles and Whimsy M-Bossibilities, Echo Park This & That 6x6 Paper Pad, SU Ink & Cardstock, Ranger Glossy Accents, Embellie Gellie, Cork stickers, button

Thanks so much for visiting today.
