Blue Syren

I don't know why, but I just love mermaids!  Remember the movie Splash?  When I was a child, I would wrap up my legs in a blanket and pretend to be Madison the Mermaid.  Haha!  When I saw this Syren from The Greeting Farm, I had to buy her!  She has fun hair to colour and a delightful edginess to her!  My favourite part?  The eyeshadow!!

I've made this card for the Splitcoaststampers Ways To Use It challenge this week.  The challenge is Monochromatic.  I don't believe I've ever made a monochromatic card before (shocking, I know).

I added some texture by taking a piece of canvas and dying it with various blue reinkers.  Details are SU Ribbon, Spellbinders Labels, and gems I bought at Can You Digi It?   Syren is coloured with Copic Markers.

Ruffled Birthday

It's my turn to host this week's Splitcoaststampers Ways to Use It Challenge.  So the challenge is to use RUFFLES!  I love ruffles!  So I used SU's Ruffled Ribbon, but I felt like it just wasn't ruffled enough.  So I folded and creased the ribbon as it went down the line, adding more ruffles.  The butterfly is an awesome Ghost Shape from Heidi Swap.  I coloured it with Copic Markers.

I hope you get a chance to play along with our challenge today!

Stamps - Balloon Kaylee by Some Odd Girl, Sentiment Sampler by Paper Smooches
Paper - My Mind's Eye - Life of the Party, SU Cardstock, Staples 110lb White Cardstock

Hanging Around!

We're continuing the release of some fabulous images at Tiddly Inks.  This adorable Wryn is called Wryn - Hanging Around.  She reminds me of my tree-climbing eldest daughter!   Isn't she cute?!

I coloured her with Copic Markers:  hair-E47, E99, E97, Y21; skin-E21, E00, E000, R20; blue-B37, B34, B32, RV93, RV91; green-YG07, YG03, YG00; tree branch-E57, E55, E53, E35, E34

I dyed some burlap with SU's Early Espresso Ink to darken it like a tree branch and then scrunched it before gluing it on the card.

Other supplies used:  Fancy Pants Surf's Up DP, Staples 110lb White Cardstock, SU Cardstock, flowers and burlap from Wal-Mart, Paper Smooches Good Gab, SU Cutter Kit, Spellbinders Lacey Circles & Standard Circles.

Digitally Inking the Edges

Hello All!  I have a digital scrapbooking tutorial to share with you today!  I've made this tutorial for Fairy Fun Fridays.  I used the Pilot Gillian digital stamp by Prairie Fairy Designs and the Kokeshi Paper Pack by Samantha Walker.

One thing that held me back for so long with digital scrapbooking, is I really liked the look of the traditional pages I was making.  More specifically, I liked the depth and dimension I could create on a traditional page.  One of the most basic ways I use to get that look is to ink the edges of the papers that I use.   After playing around in Photoshop for a while, I found a way to get the same look!  This isn't the only way to make it happen, but it's quick and easy!

The program I'm using is Photoshop CS5.

So I'm going to show you how to "ink" the edges of this piece of paper.

We're going to use the Burn Tool.  You'll find it on the toolbar on the left.  I have mine set to 58% Exposure.

The tool will look like a circle.  You just run the mouse along the edge of your paper.  You can see the difference here where I have just run it along the top of the page.

Finish burning the edges of all your papers.  The nice thing about using the burn tool as opposed to a brush is that you don't have to worry about changing the colour.  The burn tool just darkens what's there.  Now, go back to the full page view and have a look at the balloons.  I gave them more dimension by using the burn tool around the ovals!

I hope you've enjoyed this tutorial today!  Thanks so much for visiting!
