Sweet Children of Mine

Over the next few weeks, you are going to notice some changes to my blog.  Even the name is going to change *gasp*!!  The first change you'll see though is that I no longer design for Tiddly Inks.  This was such a difficult decision to make!  I really love their images and the artist, Christy, is so fabulous!  Here's how fabulous she is...

Before I'd decided to leave the team, I put in a request for images.  I wanted to find some that represented my three daughters.  Even after I left the team, Christy sent me this sweet Sisters image.  I loved it!  With her permission (thanks, Christy!), I tweaked things a bit to have them represent my girls more specifically.

My youngest, Jessi, has the most sunny personality I've ever seen!  She sings and dances all day long!  Her hair is a vibrant copper-red, so I coloured it that way.  My eldest, Taylor, has a book with her wherever she goes.  She loves to learn, loves to read, and asks a million questions because she just has to know the answers!  My middle child, Emily, is sweet and girly, with a morbid edge.  She loves skulls and the colour black, but is also into tierras and sparkles.

I'm a little bored of cards at the moment, so I decided to make a wall hanging out of this image.  I grabbed an old photo frame (I have a pile of them to pick from), sanded it down and repainted it.  After painting, I sanded some of the paint off on the corners and edges.  Then sealed the whole thing with an acrylic sealer.

I coloured my image with Copic markers (I was on holiday at the time and didn't make note of which ones, sorry).  I inked and distressed the edges of every piece of paper.  The sentiment was simply printed off my computer after searching for fun sister quotes.  I added some embellishments with my glue gun and voila!  I fun piece of art for their bedroom!

I created this piece for the Ways To Use It challenge today at Splitcoaststampers.  The challenge theme is Sweet Child of Mine.  I think this fits!

Here's a closeup of the image:

This is my favourite detail!  I took a couple of hinges from one of Tim Holtz's Grungeboard Sets, dyed them with Tumbled Glass Distress Reinker, swiped them with a Rusty Hinge Distress Ink Pad, and glued them to the side of the frame.

Supplies I've used:  SU Brads, Distress Ink - Vintage Photo, Rusty Hinge, Tumbled Glass, Antique Linen, Cream craft paint, sand paper, Maya Road pin, Prima burlap flower, SU ribbon, Prima wood button, 7 Gypsies metal "3" tab, Prima metal flower, Prima Art Tile, SU Cutter Kit

5 Things I Love

There's a contest going on at Jessica Sprague!  The challenge is to create a layout naming five things you love.  I just had these beautiful professional photos taken of myself by my good friend Johanna of Birds on a Wire Photography!  I love how they turned out!  Thanks, Johanna!  My layout is inspired by another good friend, Kasandra Mathieson.  Most of her layouts have a picture as a background image, so that's what I went with!

I kept the layout fairly simple.  All supplies are from Jessica Sprague.  I used Carina Gardner's Essentials Collection and Pink Paislee's Bohemian Bliss Element Pack.  I added some distressing brushes that I created myself.

Me Too!!

I know I've been neglecting you!  If you're still with me, I sure appreciate it!  I've taken a much needed break from crafting.  I have some plans in the works, so you probably won't see much of me through the summer.  But I promise that I'll be back to a full posting schedule soon!

As an announcement, I'm happy to say that I'm now a co-hostess of the Digital Scrapbooking Challenges at Splitcoaststampers!  The challenge today is called Less is More.  It may not look like it on my page, but this really is a Less is More theme.  For this layout I went easy on the time consuming techniques!  That was a real challenge for me!

I hope you have a chance to come and check out our challenges!

Thanks for visiting today!
